1. وَرُبَّ ذاتِ حُمارٍ دونها رجل

    تفوقه بخصالٍ عدّها جُمَل

    And many a woman with a donkey ranks above a man;

    She surpasses him in qualities counted in great numbers.

  2. حمداً لأكرم من سارت قرائنها

    جوداً له فوق أرباب العطا حلل

    Praise to the most generous of those whose peers have journeyed;

    In generosity, his robes stand above the lords of bounty.

  3. ضمّختُ درَّ الثنا من طيب مجدكم

    أكرم به من عَبير نشرُه الجذل

    I perfumed the pearls of praise with the fragrance of your glory.

    How noble a perfume it is, whose fragrance is joy!

  4. رضاكمُ هو فخرٌ عند عبدكمُ

    لم يبغ غير الرضا منكم ولا يَسَلُ

    Your approval is your servant's pride.

    He sought nothing from you but approval, and asks for nothing more.

  5. تمَّت لي النعمة العظمى بخدمتكم

    إذ صرتُ منها بثوب العزّ اشتمل

    The greatest blessing became complete for me through serving you,

    When, through it, I came to wrap myself in the robe of honor.

  6. كنتم ملوك بني الغبراء أجمعهم

    مجداً بل الآن فيكم تفخر الدول

    You were kings of all the sons of the dusty earth,

    In glory—nay, now the realms take pride in you.

  7. ما يذهب الجدّ ما كانت حديقته

    لكل مكتسبٍ مجداً هي الرسُلُ

    Good fortune does not fade so long as its garden

    Is a host of messengers for everyone who earns glory.
