وقائل دع عنك حمل الهوى

وقائل دع عنك حمل الهوى

فالقلب منه لم يزل في جحيم

فالقلب منه لم يزل في جحيم

And one said, “Cast off the burden of love—

And someone said, “Cast off the burden of love,

A speaker said: "Cease carrying the burden of passion,

for the heart, because of it, has never ceased to burn in torment.”

for the heart has remained in hell because of it.”

For the heart because of it is ever in fiery torment."

فقلتُ لو ذقتَ الهوى قلتَ لي

فقلتُ لو ذقتَ الهوى قلتَ لي

ذلك تقدير العزيز العليم

ذلك تقدير العزيز العليم

I replied, “Had you tasted love, you would say to me:

So I said, “Had you tasted love, you would have said to me,

I replied: "If you had tasted passion, you would have said to me:

‘Such is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.’”

‘That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.’”

'That is the decree of the Mighty, the Wise.'"
