يا من إذا الرسل عُدّت أنت أوّلُها

يا من إذا الرسل عُدّت أنت أوّلُها

خلقاً وآخرها بعثاً وأكملها

خلقاً وآخرها بعثاً وأكملها

O you who, when the messengers are counted, are their first—

O you who were first of messengers in creation

In creation, their last to be sent, and their most perfect.

And last of them in being sent and most perfect,

لأجل قرب به الأخرى أمثّلها

لأجل قرب به الأخرى أمثّلها

في حالة البعد روحي كنت أرسلها

في حالة البعد روحي كنت أرسلها

For the sake of nearness through which I picture the Hereafter,

So that through your nearness the others gained perfection.

While far away, I used to send my soul.

When absent, my spirit I would send to you.

تقبل الأرض عني وهي نائبتي

تقبل الأرض عني وهي نائبتي

يا من على حبّه ذاتي قد انفطَرت

يا من على حبّه ذاتي قد انفطَرت

It would kiss the earth on my behalf, as my deputy.

Let the earth represent me in my duty to you,

O you, upon love for whom my very being was fashioned,

O you for whose love my being is torn asunder.

لذاك حبّ السوى والغير قد حَظَرَت

لذاك حبّ السوى والغير قد حَظَرَت

إن كانت الروح بالتقبيل قد ظفرت

إن كانت الروح بالتقبيل قد ظفرت

Thus it has forbidden love of others and all besides.

So for the love of other than you I have denied love

If the soul has already succeeded in kissing,

If my soul succeeded in kissing you,

فهذه نوبة الأشباح قد حضرت

فهذه نوبة الأشباح قد حضرت

فامدد يمينك كي تحظى بها شفتي

فامدد يمينك كي تحظى بها شفتي

So now the turn of bodily forms has arrived.

Then these specters are now present.

Then extend your right hand, that my lip may be graced by it.

So extend your right hand that my lips may gain it.
