ياO أُختَsister of كِندَةَKindah عافيshun شُربَthe drink of عُثمانِUthman
وَأَزمِعيAnd resolve لِبَنيfor the sons of عَوفٍAwf بِهِجرانِon forsaking
O sister of Kindah, shun Uthman's drink,
O sister of Kindah, leave the drinking of Uthman,
And resolve to forsake the sons of Awf.
And intend for the Banu Auf to emigrate.
ياO أُختَsister of كِندَةَKindah سيريtravel سيرَthe journey of ساخطَةٍan angry woman
كيSo that نَنتَويwe may depart مُنتَوىthe departure of غَضبىan angry woman وَغَضبانِand an angry man
O sister of Kindah, travel as an angry woman travels,
O sister of Kindah, go on an angry journey,
So we may depart as an angry woman and an angry man would.
So we may seek refuge for my and your anger.
ياO أُختَsister of كِندَةَKindah لَيسَis not الرِزقُsustenance فيin يَدِهِhis hand
الرِزقُSustenance فيin يَدِthe hand of مَنthe One who لَوif شاءَHe wished أَغنانيwould enrich me
O sister of Kindah, sustenance is not in his hand;
O sister of Kindah, the sustenance is not in his hands,
Sustenance is in the hand of the One who, if He wished, would enrich me.
The sustenance is in the hands of the One who could have made me rich if He willed.
الماءُWater فيin دارِthe house of عُثمانٍUthman لَهُfor it ثَمَنٌa price
وَالخُبزُAnd bread فيهاin it لَهُfor it شَأنٌa matter مِنَof الشانِconsequence
Water in Uthman's house has a price,
The water in Uthman's house has a price,
And bread there is a matter of great consequence.
And the bread in it has prestige.
عُثمانُUthman يَعلَمُknows أَنَّthat الحَمدَpraise ذوhaving ثَمَنٍa price
لَكِنَّهُBut he يَشتَهيcraves حَمداًpraise بِمَجّانِfor free
Uthman knows that praise has a price,
Uthman knows that praise has a price,
Yet he craves praise for free.
But he desires praise for free.
وَالناسُAnd people أَكيَسُshrewder مِنthan أَنto يَحمَدواthey praise رَجُلاًa man
حَتّىUntil يَرَواthey see عِندَهُwith him آثارَsigns of إِحسانِgenerosity
And people are too shrewd to praise a man
And people are too clever to praise a man
Until they see in him signs of generosity.
Until they see signs of his good deeds.
إِغسِلWash يَدَيكَyour two hands بِأَشنانٍwith cleansing alkali وَأَنقِهماand cleanse them both
غسلَthe washing for الجَنابَةِsexual impurity مِنfrom مَعروفِthe favors of عُثمانِUthman
Wash your hands with cleansing alkali and cleanse them
Wash your hands with natron and make them very clean,
Of Uthman's favors, as in the ritual bath for sexual impurity.
Like the washing of janabah from the kindness of Uthman.
وَاِسلَحAnd shit عَلىon كُلِّevery عُثمانٍUthman مَرَرتَyou passed بِهِby him
إِلّاExcept الخَليفَةِthe caliph عُثمانUthman بنِson of عَفّانِAffan
And shit on every Uthman you pass,
And arm yourself against every Uthman you pass by,
Except the caliph Uthman ibn Affan.
Except the caliph Uthman ibn Affan.
