أُكذِّبُ طَرفي عَنكِ وَالطَرفُ صادِق

أُكذِّبُ طَرفي عَنكِ وَالطَرفُ صادِق

وَأُسمِعُ أُذني مِنكِ ما لَيسَ يُسمَعُ

وَأُسمِعُ أُذني مِنكِ ما لَيسَ يُسمَعُ

I disbelieve my eye concerning you, though the eye speaks true;

I deny what my eyes tell me of you, though my eyes speak true;

I deny my eyes of you though the eyes speak truth

And make my ear hear from you what cannot be heard.

And I make my ear hear from you what is not heard.

And make my ears hear from you what cannot be heard

وَلَم أَسكُنِ الأَرضَ الَّتي تَسكُنينَها

وَلَم أَسكُنِ الأَرضَ الَّتي تَسكُنينَها

لِكَي لا يَقولوا صابِرٌ لَيسَ يَجزَعُ

لِكَي لا يَقولوا صابِرٌ لَيسَ يَجزَعُ

I did not dwell in the land where you dwell,

And I have not dwelt in the land where you dwell,

And I did not reside in the land you reside

Lest they say, “A patient man, untouched by anguish.”

So they will not say, 'He is patient, not overcome by grief.'

So they won't say: patient, not broken from agony

فَلا كَمَدي يَبلى وَلا لَكِ رَحمَةٌ

فَلا كَمَدي يَبلى وَلا لَكِ رَحمَةٌ

وَلا عَنكِ إِقصارٌ وَلا فيكِ مَطمَعُ

وَلا عَنكِ إِقصارٌ وَلا فيكِ مَطمَعُ

So neither does my consuming grief fade, nor do you show mercy;

So my anguish does not fade, and you have no mercy;

So neither does my determination grow weak, nor you have mercy

There is no desisting from you, yet no hope in you.

There is no turning away from you, nor any hope of winning you.

Neither do I fall short from you, nor in you, hopes I keep

لَقيتُ أُموراً فيكِ لَم أَلقَ مِثلَها

لَقيتُ أُموراً فيكِ لَم أَلقَ مِثلَها

وَأَعظَمُ مِنها مِنكِ ما أَتَوَقَّعُ

وَأَعظَمُ مِنها مِنكِ ما أَتَوَقَّعُ

Through you I have encountered things whose like I never met,

Because of you, I have faced things whose like I have never faced,

I have met with things from you, the like of them I have not met

And greater still is what I expect from you.

And what I expect from you is greater still than these.

And greater than them, from you what I expect
