فَوso, by اللَهِGod ماnot أَدريI know أَيَغلِبُنيwill it overcome me? الهَوىpassion
فَو اللَهِ ما أَدري أَيَغلِبُني الهَوى
إِذاwhen جَدّgrows grave جَدُّthe gravity البَينِof parting أَمor أَناI غالِبُهits conqueror
إِذا جَدّ جَدُّ البَينِ أَم أَنا غالِبُه
So, by God, I do not know whether passion will overcome me
When parting grows grave, or whether I will overcome it.
فَإِنso if أَستَطِعI can أَغلِبI prevail وَإِنand if يَغلبِprevails الهَوىpassion
فَإِن أَستَطِع أَغلِب وَإِن يَغلبِ الهَوى
فَمِثلُthen the like of الَّذيwhat لاقَيتُI have endured يَغلِبُoverwhelms صاحِبُهits bearer
فَمِثلُ الَّذي لاقَيتُ يَغلِبُ صاحِبُه
If I can, I will prevail; and if passion prevails,
Then the like of what I have endured overwhelms the one who bears it.
