لَمّا رَأَيتُ بَني عَوفٍ وَإِخوَتَهُم

لَمّا رَأَيتُ بَني عَوفٍ وَإِخوَتَهُم

كَعباً وَجَمعَ بَني النَجّارِ قَد حَفِلوا

كَعباً وَجَمعَ بَني النَجّارِ قَد حَفِلوا

When I saw the sons of ‘Awf and their brothers—

Ka‘b and the host of the sons of al-Najjar—already assembled,

قِدماً أَباحوا حِماكُم بِالسُيوفِ وَلَم

قِدماً أَباحوا حِماكُم بِالسُيوفِ وَلَم

يَفعَل بِكُم أَحَدٌ مِثلَ الَّذي فَعَلوا

يَفعَل بِكُم أَحَدٌ مِثلَ الَّذي فَعَلوا

long ago they overran your protected lands with swords, and never

has anyone done to you the like of what they did.
