وحاجة لا أزال أذكرها

يوردها خاطري ويصدرها

And there is a need I never cease recalling;

my mind brings it to water and leads it away again.

يكون لي نفعها إذا قضيت

لكن إليكم يؤل مفخرها

Its benefit will be mine when it is fulfilled,

but its glory will fall to you.

فانهض لها لاعدمتها همما

مسمعها سجب وحبرس

So rise to meet it—may you never lack lofty resolves—

Its hearing—[unclear] and [unclear].

وقم باعبائها فمثلك من

يدعي لأكرومة فيبصرها

And shoulder its burdens, for one like you is one

who is summoned to a noble deed and then discerns it.

واعتدّها عند مرتجيك يدا

بيضاء طول الزمان يشكرها

And reckon it, for the one who hopes in you, as a hand

white with kindness, for which he will be grateful for all time.

أصغ إلى دعوة المروءة لا

تلغ لها دعوة تكررها

Heed the call of noble character; do not

dismiss a call it keeps repeating.

فأنت من أسرة لها شيم

طابت فخاراً وطاب عنصرها

For you are of a family whose qualities

are a noble source of pride, and whose lineage is noble.

فداؤكم من إذا العلى ذكرت

لديه ينكرنه وينكرها

May your ransom be one who, when lofty virtues are mentioned

in his presence, is disowned by them and disowns them in turn.

ليس لديه لآمليه سوى

تلفيق أعذاره يقدّرها

He has nothing for those who hope in him except

the fabrication of his excuses, which he contrives.
