يا من دعائي له ومدحي
نفلىmy voluntary devotion مدىfor as long as مدّنيhe sustains me وفرضيand my duty
نفلى مدى مدّني وفرضي
O you for whom my prayers and praise
My supplication and my praise are for You
Are my voluntary devotion and my duty, so long as you sustain me,
My supererogatory and my duty extend as far as You have extended me
وياand O سماءheaven لعليfor my ascent أترضىwould you be content?
ويا سماء لعلي أترضى
أنيthat I أبقىremain بغيرwithout أرضland
أني أبقى بغير أرض
And O heaven of my ascent, would you be content
O heaven, may you be pleased
That I remain without land?
That I remain in a land not my own
وليand I have لأبوابكto your gates انتسابa connection
ولي لأبوابك انتساب
فامننso graciously bestow بشيءsomething عليّupon me مرضىpleasing
فامنن بشيء عليّ مرضى
And I have ties to your gates,
To your gates I profess my lineage
So graciously grant me something pleasing,
So bestow on me something to heal me
لأملأso that I may fill الأرضthe earth منwith ثناءpraise
لأملأ الأرض من ثناء
يسريflows بطولalong the length لهاof it وعرضand breadth
يسري بطول لها وعرض
That I may fill the earth with praise
That I may fill the earth with praise
Flowing through its length and breadth.
