تنعّم قوم بالعبادة والتقى

ألذّ النعيم، لا اللذاذة بالخمر

ألذّ النعيم، لا اللذاذة بالخمر

Some people found bliss in worship and piety—

Some people find pleasure in worship and piety

The sweetest bliss, not the pleasure of wine.

The sweetest of pleasures, not intoxication with wine

فقرّت به طول الحياة عيونهم

فقرّت به طول الحياة عيونهم

وكانت لهم ـ والله ـ زادا الى القبر

وكانت لهم ـ والله ـ زادا الى القبر

So their eyes were gladdened by it throughout life,

Throughout their lives, they were made content by it

And it was—by God—their provision for the grave.

And it was for them - by God - provisions for the grave

على برهة نالوا بها العز والتقى

على برهة نالوا بها العز والتقى

ألا ولذيذ العيش بالبرّ والصبر

ألا ولذيذ العيش بالبرّ والصبر

Over a span of time, through it they attained honor and piety.

For a while, they attained through it might and piety

And indeed, life is sweet through righteousness and patience.

Lo, sweet is living with righteousness and patience
