  1. دنيا تداولها العباد ذميمة

    شيبت بأكره من نقيع الحنظل

    The world that mortals pass among themselves is blameworthy,

    mixed with something more repugnant than an infusion of colocynth.

  2. وبنات دهر لا تزال ملمة

    فيها فجائع مثل وقع الجندل

    And time’s daughters never cease descending—

    calamities within it, like the impact of stones.
