Every effort devoted to other than you is wasted.

Every effort besides You is lost

And all speech not in remembrance of you is fraught with afflictions.

And every word without remembering You leads astray

وكل اشتغالٍ لا بحبك باطل

وكل اشتغالٍ لا بحبك باطل

وكل سماعٍ لا لقولك زلات

وكل سماعٍ لا لقولك زلات

And all activity not devoted to love of you is vain.

And all occupation without loving You is invalid

And all listening not to your words amounts to missteps.

And all listening without hearing Your word are mistakes

وكل وقوفٍ لا لبابك خيبةٌ

وكل وقوفٍ لا لبابك خيبةٌ

وكل عكوفٍ لا إليك جنايات

وكل عكوفٍ لا إليك جنايات

And all standing not at your door ends in disappointment.

And all standing not at Your door is disappointment

And all devotion not directed toward you amounts to transgressions.

And all intimacy not towards You is sin

وكل اهتمامٍ دون وصلك ضائع

وكل اهتمامٍ دون وصلك ضائع

وكل اتجاه لا إليك ضلالات

وكل اتجاه لا إليك ضلالات

And all concern apart from union with you is wasted.

And all preoccupation without connecting with You is wasted

And all turning not toward you is going astray.

And all orientation not towards You is misguidance

وكل رجاء دون فضلك آيس

وكل رجاء دون فضلك آيس

وكل حديثٍ عن سواك خطيئات

وكل حديثٍ عن سواك خطيئات

And all hope apart from your grace is hopeless.

And all hope without Your grace is despairing

And all talk of other than you amounts to sins.

And all talk besides You are transgressions
