ياO عائِبَyou who disparage الفَقرِpoverty أَلاwill you not تَزدَجِرdesist
عَيبُfault الغِنىwealth أَكثَرُgreater لَوif تَعتَبِرyou reflect
O you who disparage poverty, will you not desist?
Wealth has more faults, if you would reflect.
مِنamong شَرَفِthe nobility of الفَقرِpoverty وَمِنand among فَضلِهِits superiority
عَلىover الغِنىwealth إِنif صَحَّis sound مِنكَon your part النَظَرjudgment
One mark of poverty's nobility and its superiority
over wealth—if your judgment is sound—
إِنَّكَindeed, you تَعصيyou disobey اللَهَGod تَبغيyou seek الغِنىwealth
وَلَستَand you are not تَعصيyou disobey اللَهَGod كَيin order to تَفتَقِرyou become poor
is that you disobey God seeking wealth,
but you do not disobey God to become poor.
