لله درّ القنوع من خلق!
كمhow many منof وضيعa lowly person بهthrough it ارتفعاrose in rank؟!
كم من وضيع به ارتفعا؟!
How admirable a virtue contentment is!
How sublime is the treasure of contentment from the Creator!
How many a lowly man has risen through it!
How many lowly ones through it have risen high?!
يضيقfeels constrained الفتىthe young man بحاجتهby his need
يضيق الفتى بحاجته
ومنand whoever تأسىfollowed the example بدونهof one worse off than himself اتسعاfound ease
ومن تأسى بدونه اتسعا
A young man feels constrained by his need;
The young man is troubled by his needs,
And whoever follows the example of one worse off finds ease.
Yet whoever lives without it finds spaciousness.
