    The eye reveals what is in its owner's heart,

    whether hatred or affection, when either is present.

    لا يَستَطيعُ لِما في القَلبِ كِتمانا

    Indeed, the enemy has an eye he turns about;

    he cannot conceal what lies within his heart.

    And the eye of one who loves—its eyeball never ceases

    to show him a smiling eye socket and pupil.

    So the eye speaks while mouths are silent,

    until one sees the heart's hidden thoughts made plain.
