لَستَyou are not تَدريyou know ماذاwhat يَعيبُكَdiscredits you مِنهُfrom it
O man, never utter a word
O man, never utter a word
O man, do not utter a word,
when you do not know what in it may bring you reproach.
Without knowing what in it may bring you reproach.
You know not if it will be against you.
وَاِلزَمِand keep to الصَمتَsilence إِنَّindeed فيin الصَمتِsilence حُكماًwisdom
وَإِذاand when أَنتَyou قُلتَyou said قَولاًa word فَزِنهُthen weigh it
Hold fast to silence; in silence there is wisdom.
And keep to silence; surely there is wisdom in silence.
Remain silent, for in silence there is wisdom.
And when you do speak a word, weigh it well.
And when you say a word, weigh it.
When you speak weigh your words,
وَإِذاand when القَومُthe people أَلغَطواthey clamored فيin كَلامٍconversation
لَستَyou are not تُعنىyou are concerned بِشَأنِهِwith its subject فَاِلهَthen divert yourself عَنهُfrom it
And when the people raise a clamor in talk
And when people clamor in conversation
If others babble nonsense,
that does not concern you, turn away from it.
That does not concern you, turn your attention away from it.
Pay no heed, turn away.
