My son, when a conqueror subjects you to humiliation—
My dear son, if an oppressor imposes humiliation upon you,
a mighty one—some humiliation better preserves and protects.
A mighty one—then some humiliation better preserves you and keeps you safer.

Do not shrink from certain courses out of pride,
And do not take offense at certain matters out of pride,
for pride may bring enduring humiliation.
For pride may beget prolonged humiliation.
