Lo, you two, convey a message from me to Qusayy.

For you are glory's pinnacle among Ghalib's kin.

And you are the people's refuge in every winter,

    When harsh-shouldered time bites them.

And indeed Maʿadd's noblest know that you

Are their refuge amid crushing calamities.

So if you release me, you release a kinsman,

And one who praises you truthfully, no liar.

So convey a message from me to Abu Sufyan,

And tell Usayd, a man of bounty and accomplishments,

And tell Abu al-ʿAsi, and do not forget Zamʿah,

And do not forget Mutʿim, the troublemaker's bridle:

That in hardship and ease you are the best of us,

When a day comes whose stars glower.
