    فالمُحُّ خالِصُهُ لِعَبدِ مَنافِ

    Quraysh was an egg, then it split open;

So its pure yolk belonged to ʿAbd Manāf—

Those who mingle their poor with their rich,

And who set out on the summer journey,

And who enrich others when no benefactor is to be found,

And who say to the guests, 'Come!'

ʿAmr, who crumbled the bread in broth for his people,

While the men of Mecca were famine-stricken and gaunt.

ʿAmr of lofty renown crumbled the bread in broth for his people,

While the men of Mecca were famine-stricken and gaunt.

And he was the one who instituted travel for his people:

The winter journeys and the summer journey.
