Prison crushed me, and the shackle bloodied my leg.

So my wound and my bonds left me helpless.

And I lost my footing in the doubts of darkness,

And blindness, the shackle, and the wound were my companions.

And I wearied of the wound, until it wearied of me—

My bleeding wound, whether I stayed or set forth.

And I faded away, so nothing remained but

Memories of tears in the illusion of the eye-corners.

For dawn's sake is all I have endured on

The journey of wandering, and all I shall endure.

Every shackle shall perish, and the powers

Of every butcher, while the wound's fragrance endures.

My wound's fire shall guide my brothers,

And I shall lend the drowsy stars my burning.

For we have a people—who, then, can deny me

When they are in my tears, my sleeplessness, and my longing?

I meet them as sorrows and hopes,

So I meet them here before we meet.
