أَقولُI say أَميرَO Commander المُؤمِنينَof the Faithful عَصَمتَناyou safeguarded us
أَقولُ أَميرَ المُؤمِنينَ عَصَمتَنا
بِبِشرٍthrough Bishr مِنfrom الدَهرِthe age الكَثيرِabounding in الزلازِلِupheavals
بِبِشرٍ مِن الدَهرِ الكَثيرِ الزلازِلِ
I say: Commander of the Faithful, you have safeguarded us
I say the Commander of the Faithful protected us
through Bishr from an age of many upheavals.
With good tidings in an age of much instability
وَأطفأتَand you extinguished عَنّاaway from us نارَthe fire كُلِّevery مُنافِقٍhypocrite
وَأطفأتَ عَنّا نارَ كُلِّ مُنافِقٍ
بِأَبيضَwith a fair man بُهلولٍa noble lord طَويلِlong of الحَمائِلِsword-straps
بِأَبيضَ بُهلولٍ طَويلِ الحَمائِلِ
And you have quenched for us the fire of every hypocrite
And you extinguished for us the fire of every hypocrite
with a fair, noble lord whose sword-straps are long.
With a white stallion, long of robes
نَمَتهُraised him قُرومٌchieftains مِنfrom أَميةَUmayya لِلعُلىfor greatness
نَمَتهُ قُرومٌ مِن أَميةَ لِلعُلى
إِذاwhen اِفتَخَرَboasted الأَقوامُthe peoples وَسطَamid المَحافِلِassemblies
إِذا اِفتَخَرَ الأَقوامُ وَسطَ المَحافِلِ
Chieftains of Umayya raised him for greatness,
It grew under the care of the Bani Umayyah for supremacy
when peoples boast amid assemblies.
When people boast amidst gatherings
هُوَhe القائِدُthe leader المَيمونُauspicious وَالعِصمَةُand the safeguard الَّتيwhich
هُوَ القائِدُ المَيمونُ وَالعِصمَةُ الَّتي
أَتىswept away حَقُّهاits truth فيناamong us عَلىupon كُلِّevery باطِلِfalsehood
أَتى حَقُّها فينا عَلى كُلِّ باطِلِ
He is the auspicious leader and the safeguard whose
He is the auspicious leader and the infallibility
truth among us has swept away every falsehood.
Whose truth in us came over every falsehood
أَقامَestablished لَناfor us الدينَthe faith القَويمَupright بحلمِهِthrough his forbearance
أَقامَ لَنا الدينَ القَويمَ بحلمِهِ
وَرأيٍand judgment لَهُit has فَضلٌsuperiority عَلىover كُلِّevery قائِلِspeaker
وَرأيٍ لَهُ فَضلٌ عَلى كُلِّ قائِلِ
He established for us the upright faith through his forbearance,
He established for us the upright religion with his patience
and judgment surpassing that of every speaker.
And an opinion whose merit surpasses that of every speaker
أَخوكyour brother أَميرَO Commander المُؤمِنينof the Faithful وَمَنand the one بِهِthrough him
أَخوك أَميرَ المُؤمِنين وَمَن بِهِ
نُجادُwe are given bounty وَنُسقىand we are given drink صَوبَrainfall أَسحمَa dark cloud هاطِلِpouring
نُجادُ وَنُسقى صَوبَ أَسحمَ هاطِلِ
He is your brother, Commander of the Faithful, and the one through whom
Your brother, Commander of the Faithful, and through him
we receive bounty and are watered by a dark cloud's pouring rain.
We are given drink and irrigation from a pouring cloud
إِذاwhenever ماemphatic particle سَألناwe asked رفدَهُhis bounty هطلتpoured down لَناfor us
إِذا ما سَألنا رفدَهُ هطلت لَنا
سَحابَةُthe cloud كفَّيهِof his two palms بجَودٍwith abundant rain وَوابِلِand a downpour
سَحابَةُ كفَّيهِ بجَودٍ وَوابِلِ
Whenever we ask for his bounty, we are showered by
When we ask for his support, the palms of his hands pour upon us
the cloud of his two palms, with abundant rain and a downpour.
A rain cloud with generosity and downpour
حَليمٌforbearing عَلىtoward الجُهّالِthe ignorant مِنّاamong us وَرَحمَةٌand a mercy
حَليمٌ عَلى الجُهّالِ مِنّا وَرَحمَةٌ
عَلىtoward كُلِّevery حافٍbarefoot person مِنof مَعَدِMaʿadd وَناعِلِand a shod person
عَلى كُلِّ حافٍ مِن مَعَدِ وَناعِلِ
Forbearing toward the ignorant among us, and a mercy
Clement towards the ignorant among us and a mercy
to all of Maʿadd, barefoot and shod.
Upon all riding camels and working beasts
