O Abu Matar, may the right hand that struck be palsied—

that struck with your sword the head of Mus‘ab, son of the Prophet’s Disciple.

May your two hands never attain any good after him,

and may you live only in ruin and bitter disappointment.

You killed a young man whose hands, in their generosity,

would pour forth like a descending rain cloud’s torrent—

bright-faced, his countenance like the light of the full moon

whenever he appeared amid the densely massed army.
