اللَهُ أَعطاكَ المَهابَةَ وَالتُقى

اللَهُ أَعطاكَ المَهابَةَ وَالتُقى

وَأَحَلَّ بَيتَكَ في العَديدِ الأَكثَرِ

وَأَحَلَّ بَيتَكَ في العَديدِ الأَكثَرِ

God has granted you awe-inspiring dignity and piety,

God has given you dignity and piety

and established your house among the most numerous people,

And settled your house among the most numerous

وأَقَرَّ عَينَكَ يَومَ وَقعَةِ خازِرٍ

وأَقَرَّ عَينَكَ يَومَ وَقعَةِ خازِرٍ

وَالخَيلُ تَعثُر بِالقَنا المُتَكَسِّرِ

وَالخَيلُ تَعثُر بِالقَنا المُتَكَسِّرِ

and gladdened your eye on the day of the battle of Khazir,

And delighted your eye on the day of the battle of Khazir

while the horses stumbled over shattered spears.

With horses stumbling over the broken canal

انّي مَدَحتُكَ إِذ نَبا بيَ مَنزِلي

انّي مَدَحتُكَ إِذ نَبا بيَ مَنزِلي

وَذَمَمتُ اخوانَ الغِنى مِن مَعشَرِ

وَذَمَمتُ اخوانَ الغِنى مِن مَعشَرِ

Indeed, I praised you when my dwelling proved inhospitable to me,

I praised you when the news reached me in my abode

and reproached wealthy companions among a company of men.

And blamed the brethren of wealth among the tribe

وَعَرَفتُ أَنَّكَ لا تُخَيِّبُ مِدحَتي

وَعَرَفتُ أَنَّكَ لا تُخَيِّبُ مِدحَتي

وَمَتى أَكُن بسَبيلِ خَيرٍ أَشكُرِ

وَمَتى أَكُن بسَبيلِ خَيرٍ أَشكُرِ

And I knew you would not let my praise go unrewarded,

And I knew that you would not disappoint my praise

and whenever good comes my way, I give thanks.

And whenever I am on the path of good, I am grateful

فَهَلُمَّ نَحوي مِن يَمينِكَ نَفحَةٌ

فَهَلُمَّ نَحوي مِن يَمينِكَ نَفحَةٌ

انَّ الزَمانَ أَلَحَّ يابنَ الأَشتَرِ

انَّ الزَمانَ أَلَحَّ يابنَ الأَشتَرِ

So let a gift from your right hand come my way;

So come closer to me from your right, a whiff

indeed, time has been relentless, O son of al-Ashtar.

Indeed time insists, O son of Ashtar
