By your life, this is no life one could wish for—
By your life, this is no life worth seeking—
a pleasant one—nor a swift death that brings release.
no pleasant life—nor a swift death that brings relief.

He announced the deaths of a family—Ya'qub among them—and desolate stood

Each of them was life-giving rain whenever drought afflicted humankind,
And all of them were rain when humankind suffered drought,
and Jacob, among them, was springtime for all creation.
and Ya'qub among them was springtime for all people.
