نَكِدنَhave become hard to fulfill وَلاand no أُمَيَّةَUmayyad فيin البِلادِthe land
I find requests at Abu Khubayb’s
hard to fulfill—and no Umayyad is in the land,
مِنfrom الأَعياصِal-A'yas أَوor مِنfrom آلthe house of حَربٍHarb
أَغَرَّradiant كَغُرَّةِlike the forehead blaze of الفرسِthe horse الجَوادِnoble
from al-A'yas or from the house of Harb,
radiant as the blaze of a noble steed.
وَماليand I have no حينَwhen أَقطَعُI cross ذاتِDhat عِرقٍIrq

And when I cross Dhat Irq, I shall not
return to the son of the Kahili woman.
وَقُلتُand I said لصحبتيto my companions أَدنواbring near رِكابيmy riding camels
أُفارِقُI leave بَطنَthe heart of مكَّةَMecca فيin سَوادٍdarkness
And I told my companions, “Bring my riding camels near;
I leave the heart of Mecca in darkness.”
