عَلى عَمروٍ السَهميّ تُجبى لَهُ مِصرُ
Have you not seen how Time's vicissitudes brought ruin
upon Amr al-Sahmi, for whom Egypt's tribute was collected?
فَلَمso ... not يُغنِavail عَنهُfor him حَزمُهhis prudence وَاِحتيالُهand his cunning
فَلَم يُغنِ عَنهُ حَزمُه وَاِحتيالُه
وَلاnor جَمعُهُwhat he amassed لَمذاunclear; probably 'when' أُتيحَwas destined لهfor him الدهرُTime
وَلا جَمعُهُ لَمذا أُتيحَ له الدهرُ
So his prudence and cunning availed him nothing,
nor what he had amassed, when Time was set against him.

And he came to dwell in the open, bereft of
his stratagems and his abundant wealth.
