She said, tears streaming down both cheeks:

Why have you come? The telephone would have sufficed.

Return before love's warders find out.

For my heart trembles for you tonight.

Around me and around you are eyes and censurers,

And lightning flashes of black hatred, and storms.

I said: Life, with censurers and love,

Grows sweet, while you are afraid of the censurers.

I am sectarian: all who commit the offense of love

Are my people, and emotion is the mistress of hearts.

So leave the eyes and their hatred alone, and perhaps

They will go blind, and a storm will come upon the censurers.

My religion and yours are harmony and love,

And a lush, shady garden above the gardens.
