أنا مُؤْمِنٌ أَحْبَبْتُ كُفَّارَ القُرى

أنا مُؤْمِنٌ أَحْبَبْتُ كُفَّارَ القُرى

وعَشِقْتُ كافرةً مِنَ الوديانِ

وعَشِقْتُ كافرةً مِنَ الوديانِ

I am a believer; I loved the unbelievers of the villages,

And I fell in love with an unbelieving woman from the valleys.

ورَفَضْتُ زَجْرَ الواعظينَ وقَوْلَهُمْ

ورَفَضْتُ زَجْرَ الواعظينَ وقَوْلَهُمْ

إنّي عَصَيْتُكَ مُنْزِلَ الأَديانِ؟

إنّي عَصَيْتُكَ مُنْزِلَ الأَديانِ؟

And I rejected the preachers’ rebuke and their claim

That I have disobeyed You, O Revealer of religions?
