    وما انْطَوَتْ مِنَّا بقايا الجِراحْ

    Love, O my heart—the morning has folded it away;

    yet the remnants of our wounds have not been folded away.

    Love, like the devil, will not leave

    us, even if we say, “It has turned away and gone.”

    A Shiite in love—neither exile

    restrains her, nor the fear of exposure.

    ولا أرى للغَيِّ عَنَّا بَرَاح

    We have grown old, but the passion between us has not;

    nor do I see waywardness departing from us.

    Hajj and Umrah have not deterred

    the devil of our two hearts, nor the woman with the sash.

    As though, in Paradise, they had been wed—

    our souls—and union had become lawful.

    ولن يُمِيتَ الحُبَّ طَعْنُ الرّماحْ

    Repentance is far beyond the poet;

    and spear-thrusts will never kill love.
