مثلُone like أبيAbu (father of) الجَيشِal-Jaysh (the army) لاnot يُضامُis wronged لَهُof his
مثلُ أبي الجَيشِ لا يُضامُ لَهُ
ضَيفٌa guest فماso why ليfor me تضيمُنيwrongs me الكاسُthe cup
ضَيفٌ فما لي تضيمُني الكاسُ
With one like Abu al-Jaysh, no wrong is done to his
My father's army camp is never crowded,
guest—so why does the cup wrong me?
No guest is turned away, yet now drink is denied me.

لا سيَّما والأميرُ يَعلم مِن
عَقليَmy intellect ماwhat ليسَnot يعلَمknow الناسُthe people
عَقليَ ما ليسَ يعلَم الناسُ
Especially since the emir knows of
Especially when the prince knows well
my intellect what people do not know.
What others do not know of my intellect.
