بهواكَ هُنتُ على الَّذي

بهواكَ هُنتُ على الَّذي

قَد كنتُ ذا عزٍّ عَليهِ

قَد كنتُ ذا عزٍّ عَليهِ

Through loving you, I became lowly in the eyes of the one

For your love I have become lowly

who had once held me in honor.

To him before whom I was mighty

وبَعُدتُ دُونَ النَّاسِ مِم

وبَعُدتُ دُونَ النَّاسِ مِم

مَن كُنتُ أقرَبهُم إليهِ

مَن كُنتُ أقرَبهُم إليهِ

And, unlike others, I grew distant from

And have grown distant from people

the one to whom I had been closest of them all.

To whom I had been most friendly

أتُرى هَواكَ يُقيلُني

أتُرى هَواكَ يُقيلُني

فأتوبَ مِنه عَلى يدَيهِ

فأتوبَ مِنه عَلى يدَيهِ

Do you think love for you will release me,

Will your love make me turn back

so I may repent of it at his hands?

And repent at his hands for what has passed
