وقالواand they said تَولَّىhe turned away حينَwhen قابَلَهmet him الغِنَىwealth
وقالوا تَولَّى حينَ قابَلَه الغِنَى
وأصبحَand he became تُبدِيهreveal him اللَّياليthe nights فَيَختَفيso he hides
وأصبحَ تُبدِيه اللَّيالي فَيَختَفي
They said he turned away when wealth met him,
They said he turned away when wealth met him,
And now the nights reveal him, so he hides.
And the nights began to make him disappear.
فقُلتُso I said حِماميmy doom المالُwealth عِلميmy knowledge بأنَّنيthat I
فقُلتُ حِمامي المالُ عِلمي بأنَّني
أخلِّفُI leave behind ماليmy wealth أوor فَماليso my wealth لمُخلِفِfor a successor
أخلِّفُ مالي أو فَمالي لمُخلِفِ
So I said: Wealth is my doom; I know that I
So I said, “My wealth, be assured that if I
Leave my wealth behind—or else my wealth is for a successor.
Leave wealth or mouth behind, it's for a successor."
