يا أحمدُ المَحمودُ في أزمةٍ
مَذمُومَةٍdeplorable فيin الشدharshness واللِّينِand gentleness
مَذمُومَةٍ في الشد واللِّينِ
O Ahmad, praised amid a crisis
O Ahmad, praised amid a crisis
O Ahmed, praised in hardship
blameworthy in hardship and ease,
that is deplorable in harshness and gentleness,
Disgraceful in ease and unease
ليَهنكَmay it gladden you اليومُthe day الذيwhich لمnot تَكُنbe
ليَهنكَ اليومُ الذي لم تَكُن
تَتركُهُlet it الأيَّامُthe days يَهنِينِيgladden me
تَتركُهُ الأيَّامُ يَهنِينِي
may today delight you—the day that the days
may you rejoice in the day that was not
May this day cheer you
would never leave to bring me delight.
