لا ولا ثمَّ قوَّةٌ فيكرُّ
It contemplates no retreat that would earn it disgrace;
Seeing no way back, it earns disgrace

Powerless, helpless, it despairs

أين سلطانُ مُقلتيك عَلينا
قلtell لهto it ماnot يجوزُis permitted فيin الحبِّlove سحرُmagic
قل له ما يجوزُ في الحبِّ سحرُ
Where is the dominion of your two eyes over us?

كلُّ قلبٍ صبٍّ لها فيه جَمرُ
You scattered the fire of your cheek until

Every melting heart for it holds embers

With what, then, will you cast off your two sideburns? Tell me—
So with what will you meet my reproach? Tell me
especially if hair overtakes hair.
Especially if poetry counters poetry

And it pains me that, in war
And it's hard for me that you with war
and in peace, you remain inexperienced throughout your life.
And with peace your whole life are proud
