يعارضُنيit opposes me بالعارضِwith the raincloud المتزايدِever-growing
How many times have I said to the rain cloud when it appeared,
And many a time I have said to the rain, as it appeared,
confronting me with its lordly bank of cloud:
opposing me with its ever-swelling cloud:
ألاlisten لاdo not تَعقنيhinder me عنfrom طريقيmy path وخلِّنيand let me
أفُزlet me win بنَصيبٍa share منfrom أبيAbu (father of) الجيشِal-Jaysh (the army) حامدِHamid
“Take heed—do not bar my path; let me
Listen, do not keep me from my path, and let me
gain my allotted share from Abu al-Jaysh Hamid.”
win a share from Abu al-Jaysh Hamid.
فلماso when أبىit refused إلاanything but اللجاجةَstubborn persistence دلَّنيit showed me
علىto أنهاthat it was منهfrom it مكيدةُa plot حاسدِan envious one
But when it would accept nothing but obstinacy, it made plain to me
So when it would do nothing but stubbornly persist, it showed me
that this, on its part, was an envier’s scheme
that this was its plot, born of envy
ليمناكَof your right hand إذfor يمناكَyour right hand أسرعُswifter نائلاًin giving
وأثبتُand more steadfast صبراًin patience فيin صُدورthe fronts of الشدائدِhardships
against your right hand—for your right hand is swifter in giving,
of your right hand, for your right hand is swifter in giving,
more steadfastly patient in the face of hardships,
and more steadfast in patience in the face of hardships,
وأكثرُand most numerous ماwhat is بينَamong البريةِhumankind قاصداًa seeker
وأكثرُand more abundant أجداءًgiving علىto كلِّevery قاصدِseeker
has more seekers than anything in creation,
and draws the most seekers among humankind,
and lavishes more bounty upon every seeker.
and bestows more bounty upon every seeker.
فماso why لسحابِfor the clouds of الماءwater يقطعنَthey cut off عنfrom فتىًa young man
أناملthe fingertips of كفَّيهhis two hands سحابclouds of الفوائدِbounties
What business, then, have clouds of water barring me from a noble youth
So why should clouds of water keep me from a young man
whose fingertips are clouds of bounty?
whose fingertips on both hands are clouds of bounty?
