وكَمand many a آمرٍone who urges بالصَّبرِto be patient لَمnot يرَsee لَوعَةًanguish
وكَم آمرٍ بالصَّبرِ لَم يرَ لَوعَةً
وماand what صنَعَتhas wrought نارُthe fire الأسَىof sorrow بينَwithin أحشائيmy entrails
وما صنَعَت نارُ الأسَى بينَ أحشائي
How many a preacher of patience has never known anguish,
And many who urge patience have never seen anguish
How many who order patience have not known distress,
nor what the fire of sorrow has wrought within my vitals.
Or what the fire of sorrow has wrought within my entrails.
And what has the fire of grief done within my entrails,
ومنand from أينَwhere ليfor me صبرٌpatience وفيwhile at كلِّevery ساعةٍhour
ومن أينَ لي صبرٌ وفي كلِّ ساعةٍ
أرىI see حَسَناتيmy good deeds فيin مَوازينthe scales of أَعدائيmy enemies
أرى حَسَناتي في مَوازين أَعدائي
Whence could patience come to me, when at every hour
And where can I find patience, when every hour
Whence can I have patience when in every hour
I see my good deeds in my enemies’ scales?
I see my good deeds in the scales of my enemies?
I see my virtues in the scales of my enemies.
