قالَhe said ليto me أنتَyou أَخوbrother of الكَلبِthe dog وفيand in
قالَ لي أنتَ أَخو الكَلبِ وفي
ظَنِّهhis estimation أنthat قَدalready تَناهَىhe went to the limit واجتهَدand did his utmost
ظَنِّه أن قَد تَناهَى واجتهَد
He said to me, “You are the dog’s brother,” and in
He said to me, “You are the dog's brother,” and in
He said to me, "You are the brother of a dog," and in
his mind he thought he had gone to the utmost and tried his hardest.
his estimation, he had gone to the limit and done his utmost.
his opinion he went too far and made an effort.
أحمدُI praise اللَّهَGod كَثيراًgreatly أنَّهthat he
أحمدُ اللَّهَ كَثيراً أنَّه
ماnot دَرىhe knew أنِّيthat I أَخوbrother of عَبدAbd (servant of) الصَّمَدal-Samad (the Self-Sufficient)
ما دَرى أنِّي أَخو عَبد الصَّمَد
I praise God profusely that
I thank God greatly that he
I thank God very much that
he did not know I am ʿAbd al-Ṣamad’s brother.
did not know that I am Abd al-Samad's brother.
he does not know that I am the brother of Abd al-Samad.
