أتاناhe came to us بهاwith it كالنارlike fire منfrom قبلbefore مَزجهاits mixing
أتانا بها كالنار من قبل مَزجها
ومنand from بَعدهafter it كالشمسlike the sun عندat غُروبِهاits setting
ومن بَعده كالشمس عند غُروبِها
He brought it to us like fire before it was mixed,
She came to us like fire before it is kindled
and after mixing, like the sun at its setting.
And after it like the sun at the time of its setting
لهيبُflame قلوبhearts الشّربthe drinkers يطفىis quenched بشُربهاby drinking it
لهيبُ قلوب الشّرب يطفى بشُربها
ويُخشىand one fears علىfor أيديهُمُtheir hands منfrom لَهيبِهاits flame
ويُخشى على أيديهُمُ من لَهيبِها
The flame in the drinkers’ hearts is quenched by drinking it,
The flame of drinking hearts is extinguished by her drink
yet one fears for their hands because of its flame.
And for their hands her flame is feared
