فلَقد ذمَمت قريحةً

كانت تُطالبُني بحمدِك

for I have censured a poetic gift

For I have indeed reproached a poetic gift

So I have blamed inspiration

that kept urging me to praise you.

That used to demand that I praise you.

That was demanding your praise from me
