ما بينَ جَوركَ بَيننا سَرَفٌ

ما بينَ جَوركَ بَيننا سَرَفٌ

يأتي عَلى الحَركاتِ والحِسِّ

يأتي عَلى الحَركاتِ والحِسِّ

What lies between your cruelty and us is an excess

Overdoing between us is

that lays waste to movement and sensation.

Coming on movements and senses

أنساهُمُ وقتاً فتذكرُني

أنساهُمُ وقتاً فتذكرُني

وإذا انتَهَيتُ إليهمُ تُنِسي

وإذا انتَهَيتُ إليهمُ تُنِسي

I forget them for a time, then you remind me;

They forgot me for a while, so you remember me

and when I reach them, you make me forget.

And when I come to them, you make me forget

ولذاكَ تَطمعُ كلُّ عائِدةٍ

ولذاكَ تَطمعُ كلُّ عائِدةٍ

منِّي إذا أصبَحتُ أن أُمسي

منِّي إذا أصبَحتُ أن أُمسي

And so every woman visiting the sick hopes

And therefore every returning woman hopes

that, when I reach morning, I may live to see evening.

From me, that when I become morning, I will evening
