أقمتُI raised لكَfor you اصبَعاًa finger لاno ظُفرَfingernail فيهاon it
أقمتُ لكَ اصبَعاً لا ظُفرَ فيها
فتَعرفُهاso you recognize it فَتَستَحييthen you feel ashamed وتُغضيand you lower your gaze
فتَعرفُها فَتَستَحيي وتُغضي
I raised for you a finger with no nail upon it,
I raised a finger to you with no nail
so you recognize it, feel ashamed, and lower your gaze.
So you'd recognize it and be shy and avert your eyes
فنابَتso it stood in عَنكَfor you فيin استِعطافِseeking the compassion of قَلبيmy heart
فنابَت عَنكَ في استِعطافِ قَلبي
فبَعضيso part of me شافِعٌan intercessor لكَfor you عندَwith بَعضيpart of me
فبَعضي شافِعٌ لكَ عندَ بَعضي
It then stood in for you in seeking my heart’s compassion:
It turned away from you, pleading for my heart
thus one part of me intercedes for you with another.
So part of me interceded for you with another part
