حَركاتٌ للسُّقمِ فيها سُكُونُ
Is it death that has appeared to us, or eyelids?
Is it a dream that appeared to us, or sleepy eyelids
Movements in which sickness finds repose.
With movements of sickness in them there is tranquility
بعتُهاI sold to them طالَماas long as حَيِيتُI live هُجُوعيmy slumber
بعتُها طالَما حَيِيتُ هُجُوعي
بدمُوعيfor my tears فأيُّناso which of us المَغبُونُthe one shortchanged
بدمُوعي فأيُّنا المَغبُونُ
I sold them my slumber for as long as I live,
I have sent her as long as I lived my sorrows
for my tears—so which of us is shortchanged?
With my tears, so who is more foolish

لَ مَهينٌ ولا يَكادُ يُبِينُ
By God, in my sickness I am, as he said,
I, by God, in sickness as he said
"Abject, and scarcely able to speak clearly."
There is no disgrace and can hardly be seen
