أكرهُهُI hate it هلwhether تَركنَthey have left مُمكِنanything possible
I question misfortunes about

أحسنتُI did well ماwhat قلتُI said إذwhen أساءتthey did ill
ماwhat فَعلتthey did لوif وَجَدتُI found مُحسِنa benefactor

in what they did, had I found a benefactor.
والناسُand the people مِنfrom جانِبِthe side of اللَّياليthe nights
وَالجودُand generosity فيon جانِبِthe side of المحسِّنthe benefactor
And people are on the side of the nights,
and generosity is on the benefactor’s side.

And it was said: the two do not attain from him
what the rain attains when it pours.
