هانَwas held in contempt عَلىby أَهلِهhis family فَأَمسىso he became
هانَ عَلى أَهلِه فَأَمسى
مُدافِعاًdefending himself بَينَهمamong them معارَكembattled
مُدافِعاً بَينَهم معارَك
He was held in contempt by his family, and so became
Defending himself among them, embattled.
وعزَّand grew mighty عِندَat الطَّعامِthe meal حتَّىuntil
وعزَّ عِندَ الطَّعامِ حتَّى
كأنَّهas though he were اللَّهُGod لاnot يشارَكshared with
كأنَّه اللَّهُ لا يشارَك
And at mealtime he grew mighty, until
He seemed like God, with whom no one shares.
