And whenever Time turned away from me,

Ibrahim's right hand turned it back.

And we returned with marvels, among them

A generosity that leaves Time itself generous.

A ruler—you never, through all time, see

Anyone wronged by him save Time alone.

His aspirations became, in the sky of lofty deeds,

Stars when they shone and rose aloft.

    And whenever people's aspirations rise

Toward them, his become missiles against theirs.

Out of jealousy lest anyone but Abu Ishaq gain

A share in them, and they then be called common to all.
