مَنwho رَسوليmy messenger إِلىto أَبيAbu (father of) الحَسَنal-Hasan الشَّيthe elder (first part)
مَن رَسولي إِلى أَبي الحَسَن الشَّي
خِelder (completion) إذاwhen قُدِّمتare given precedence شُيوخُelders المَعاليeminence
خِ إذا قُدِّمت شُيوخُ المَعالي
Who will be my messenger to Abu al-Hasan, the
elder, when the elders of eminence are given precedence,
وفتَىand the youth المَكرُماتِnoble deeds إِنif ذُكرَare mentioned الفِتthe young men (first part)
وفتَى المَكرُماتِ إِن ذُكرَ الفِت
يانُyoung men (completion) يومَon the day of العَطاءِgiving والأَفضالِand bounties
يانُ يومَ العَطاءِ والأَفضالِ
and the youth of noble deeds, if the young
men are mentioned on the day of giving and bounty?
أسمعI hear الناسُthe people فيin حَديثٍconversation عَنabout الthe
أسمع الناسُ في حَديثٍ عَن ال
عيدِfestival وفيand in هِمَّةٍzeal بِهfor it واحتِفالِand celebration
عيدِ وفي هِمَّةٍ بِه واحتِفالِ
I hear people talking about the
festival, showing zeal for it and celebrating.
وسَألتُand I asked الخَبيرَthe well-informed عنهُabout it فَلمbut did not يَأhe comes (first part)
وسَألتُ الخَبيرَ عنهُ فَلم يَأ
تِcomes (completion) بِشَيءٍwith anything ولَمand did not يُجِبhe answers عَنabout سُؤاليmy question
تِ بِشَيءٍ ولَم يُجِب عَن سُؤالي
And I asked the well-informed about it, but he did not
bring anything, nor did he answer my question.
قالَhe said ماليI have no حالٌfinancial means وهَذاand this الذيwhich تَسyou ask (first part)
قالَ مالي حالٌ وهَذا الذي تَس
أَلُask (completion) عَنهabout it جَوابُهits answer فيin الحالِfinancial circumstances
أَلُ عَنه جَوابُه في الحالِ
He said, 'I have no means; and what you
ask about—its answer lies in one's financial circumstances.'
أفَأبقَىshall I then remain عَلىin الجَهالَةِignorance لاnot أَعI know (first part)
أفَأبقَى عَلى الجَهالَةِ لا أَع
رِفُknow (completion) شَيئاًanything فيin جُملَةِthe company of الجُهَّالِthe ignorant
رِفُ شَيئاً في جُملَةِ الجُهَّالِ
Shall I then remain in ignorance, not
knowing anything, among the ignorant?
