أبى الليلُ مِثلي مثلَ ما أنا مِنكمُ

أبى الليلُ مِثلي مثلَ ما أنا مِنكمُ

فما تَنقَضي عَنِّي دَياجِيه أو أقضي

فما تَنقَضي عَنِّي دَياجِيه أو أقضي

The night, like me, refuses to part—as I refuse to part from you;

The night refused anyone like me, as I am not one of you

So its darkness will not leave me until I perish.

Its darkness does not leave me, nor do I leave it

تخصّ العُيون الساهراتِ بِطوله

تخصّ العُيون الساهراتِ بِطوله

فيفضلُ بعضُ القَوم فيها على بَعضِ

فيفضلُ بعضُ القَوم فيها على بَعضِ

Its length is reserved for sleepless eyes,

It favors the sleepless eyes with its length

So some people have a greater share of it than others.

So some people excel others during it

فَلو كانَ يوم البَعث للعرض ليلةٌ

فَلو كانَ يوم البَعث للعرض ليلةٌ

لأنذَرتُكم مِن طُولها ليلَة العَرضِ

لأنذَرتُكم مِن طُولها ليلَة العَرضِ

If the day of resurrection for judgment were a night,

If Resurrection Day were a night for the presentation

I would warn you of the night of judgment because of its length.

I would have warned you of the length of the presentation night
