Convey, you two, on my behalf to Abu al-Jay-
Convey from me, O father of the army,
sh, commander of the army, a message:
Commander of the army, a matter-
أنَّthat ليI have فيكconcerning you وفيand concerning مَجgathering (first fragment)
أنَّ لي فيك وفي مَج
لِسكyour gathering (final fragment) اللَّيلةَtonight فِكراa thought
لِسك اللَّيلةَ فِكرا
that I have, concerning you and your gather-
That I have thought in you and in your
ing, a thought tonight.
Council tonight a thought-
مَنwhoever رأىsaw جودَكyour generosity فيَّاoverflowing (first fragment)
مَن رأى جودَك فيَّا
ضاًoverflowing (final fragment) وأخلاقَكَand your character زهراflowers; blossoms
ضاً وأخلاقَكَ زهرا
Whoever saw your generosity over-
He who saw your generosity in me
flowing, and your character in bloom,
As well as your morals as flowers
ظنَّthought أنَّthat البَحرَthe sea والand the
ظنَّ أنَّ البَحرَ وال
بُستانَgarden بُستاناًa garden وبَحراand a sea
بُستانَ بُستاناً وبَحرا
