قامَ العَديلُ مقامَ أُمِّه

لمَّا رأى حَركاتِ عَمِّه

Al-ʿAdīl took his mother's place

when he saw his paternal uncle's movements.

مازال يَجذبُ أيرَه

He kept drawing his cock

وتقولُ إِركَب عُقبَتي

فيُجيبُ أركَبُها برَغمِه

فيُجيبُ أركَبُها برَغمِه

And she says, 'Take my turn at riding,'

and he replies, 'I'll ride it despite him.'

حلا خِناقَ قَرابَتي

حلا خِناقَ قَرابَتي

فلَقَد ذَمَمتُكما لِذمِّه

فلَقَد ذَمَمتُكما لِذمِّه

You two, loosen the noose around my kin;

for I have censured you both for disparaging him.

وأراكُما لم تَعمَلا

وأراكُما لم تَعمَلا

إلا عَلى دَمِه ولَحمِه

إلا عَلى دَمِه ولَحمِه

And I see you two have not acted

except against his blood and flesh.
