بَينَناbetween us شَمعةٌa candle تَذوبُmelts كجسمٍlike a body
بَينَنا شَمعةٌ تَذوبُ كجسمٍ
لغَريبٍof a stranger ثَوىlay at rest بأرضِin the land of الغَرِيِّal-Ghari
لغَريبٍ ثَوى بأرضِ الغَرِيِّ
Between us, a candle melts like the body
Between us a candle melts like
of a stranger who lies in the land of al-Ghari.
The body of a stranger who took refuge in foreign lands
دَمعُهاits tears هاطِلٌpouring down كدَمعيlike my tears عَليهِfor him
دَمعُها هاطِلٌ كدَمعي عَليهِ
وهيَwhile it ماemphatic particle بَينناbetween us كجِسمِlike the body of خَلِيِّone free of care
وهيَ ما بَيننا كجِسمِ خَلِيِّ
Its tears pour down like my tears for him,
Its tears pouring like my tears for him
while here between us it resembles the body of one free of care.
And it is between us like the body of an intimate friend
قلتُI said ماwhat ذَنبُكِyour sin الذيwhich مِنهbecause of it أُحfirst part of 'you were burned'
قلتُ ما ذَنبُكِ الذي مِنه أُح
رِقتcompletion of 'you were burned' فقَالتso she said لِفرطِbecause of an excess of سِرٍّa secret خَفيِّhidden
رِقت فقَالت لِفرطِ سِرٍّ خَفيِّ
I asked, “What is your sin, for which you were
I said what is your crime that made you
burned?” She said, “Because of a deeply hidden secret:
Burn, and it said, because of the secret I kept hidden
عذَّبُونيthey tormented me بالنَّارِwith fire عَمداًdeliberately لأنِّيbecause I
عذَّبُوني بالنَّارِ عَمداً لأنِّي
اعتَقدتُI professed الوَلاallegiance لِغَيرِto someone other than عَليِّAli
اعتَقدتُ الوَلا لِغَيرِ عَليِّ
They deliberately tormented me with fire, because I
They tortured me with fire intentionally because
professed allegiance to someone other than Ali.”
I believed in the allegiance to none other than Ali
